Busy, Busy, Busy

Been a busy week so far, but still manage to get my running and workouts in somehow. Feeling alot better during workouts, getting my strength back too. Watching my diet too, very low carbs and plenty of protein. I'll run with my son this weekend since he needs to log more miles for track. I'll post more maybe tomorrow.

Mmmm...Bad!!

Okay, okay...it wasn't bad...it was GREAT! I drove the family down to my Dad's 200 acre ranch near LLano, TX on saturday. After arriving, my dad says that he wants to take us to eat lunch at Cooper's BBQ in downtown LLano. Oh man, we were in for a treat!

I kept telling myself that my diet was not in jeorpardy since I was going to eat mainly meat and since I am trying a modified Atkins Diet (more protien, less carbs, starches, sugar, etc.) that I would do fine. Well, let's just say I ate plenty of meat but.....I also made the mistake of "trying" their homemade blackberry cobbler. BIG mistake!

My wife and I agreed, that this cobbler was the best we had ever had in our lifetime. Now that's a pretty bold statement considering we both come from the south and have eaten all kinds of cobblers from people who know how to make them from scratch. After making this rather bold statement, I felt a little remorse for uttering such a boastful comment since I had made this claim many years before, confirming my Mom's and my wife's Ma Jobe their honorary place in cobbler enshrinement history. As I struggled to make sense of my seemingly blasphemous guffaw, I quickly remembered that my mother had never made a "blackberry" cobbler or had never tasted a "blackberry" cobbler made by Ma Jobe and that I was simply stating that this flavor of cobbler was the best that I had ever had. As I wriggled my way out that sticky (no pun intended) situation, I leared over at my Dad's "peach" cobbler that he had ordered...knowing that I could never, ever "try" that cobbler as long as I lived. For me, the best "peach" cobbler I have ever tasted is that of my Mom's and Ma Jobe. Their legacy never in question.

Prepare for Glory!

Went to see the 300 last night at the Palace in downtown FW. It was awesome! This is definitely a keeper when it comes out on DVD. The battle sequences were very well choreographed and digitized with plenty of blood and life-like mutalations. This kind of mvie inspires you to train even harder in the gym, since everyone children, women and men are all ripped to shreds! I highly recommend this movie and will probably see it again soon. Here are some cool links to the behind the scenes of the making of this classic.

Movie Quotes:

This is madness. - King of Persia's Messenger

No....this is SPARTA!!! - King Leonidas (just before he kicks him into the bottomless abyss)

Well, that was a good start. - Spartan (after 300 killed the first wave of 3-4,000 Persians)

We will turn the day into night with our arrows. - Persian General

Then, we shall fight in the shade. - Spartan Stelios

Good Stuff

Well, the wife and I run/walked around the neighborhood last night and ended up at Smoothie King to pick up some Almond Crunch. This stuff is GOOD!!
It helps when you're needing a quick pick me up after or before a workout. I've tried to cut down on the carbs and eat more protien anyway, so I think I'm beginning to see some results.

It Hurts So Good

Well, I worked out for the first time in over a year...it hurts. I was able to workout with The TV Frog after work at the Speedway Club. After running for 1.25 miles on the treadmill, I lifted for about 30 minutes.
I pretty much kept it simple and light, doing 3 sets of 8-10 reps on bench, dumbells, and curl bar. It's gonna take awhile to get back in the shape I was in 1.5 years ago when I was practicing Jeet Kune Do with sifu Mike Goldberg at the JKD Institute in Fort Worth.
Jeet is great for flexibility and speed. As fas as martial arts goes, Jeet is very different from say, Judo, Karate, JuiJitsSu, etc. Simply put, JKD teaches you how to basically take people out and therefore must be practiced with plenty of restraint and protective gear!! Anyway, I plan to get back into JKD and get ranked within the next year or two.
Gotta go...just took Advil and Asprin...just trying to head off the inevitable!

Just Cause...

No real reason for this pic, just wanted to pay homage to my friend The TV Frog!

E = mc2 or the lack of...

Sunday...woke up to my Dad calling me to ask for help in getting one of his rental units cleaned and painted...ugh...8:00am on a Sunday! Anyway, leave to go help and don't return until 4:30PM....long day. I stll have some energy left and made a comittment to myself to get back in shape and start running again. So I do a short 1.5 mile run around my area.

Man, I am beat. I am 20 pounds heavier than I have ever been and feeling it. Gotta work on my diet too. At least I ran without stopping...err...much. I was sure happy to see the house though! Gotta lose this weight fast!

Here's a cool link to the USATF Map Router. This tool allows you to map your own running routes anywhere in the country!

My First Entry

Okay, well it's happened. I have fallen victim to the pressure to create a blog of my daily activities as they relate to technology, running and various other inconsequential events.

I try to document my foray back into running to get back in shape. This will include how I am feeling, songs that I feel are great for running, and also notes on things that I will see along my running routes in and around the TCU area.
